A spontaneous trip into the beautiful Peak District one Friday afternoon led to us driving some amazing roads, stopping off at a wonderful pub, and spending a few hours with some good company.
We met at Willington just off the A50/A38, the plan was to travel over to Cromford, Via Gelia, up to Buxton to then drive over to Whaley Bridge, Cat & Fiddle and then head back to Willington via Leek and Ashbourne.
One thing we didn’t take into account was the fact it was half term, and a very sunny friday afternoon resulting in quite a lot of traffic between Ashbourne and Buxton.
Just before we reached Buxton we stopped off at The Duke of York pub situated on the A515 (Between Newhaven and Buxton). We highly recommend this as a stop off if you’re in the area and looking for some good grub.
Whaley Bridge was as amazing as ever, having not driven the road for a number of years it took a few drives up and down to fully remember the twists, turns and blind corners. Due to the time (being stuck in traffic for over 40mins) we had to unfortunately head back home, so we did a U-Turn and came back via the A515 and then A50. We will be back another day to complete our planned route in full (shared down below).
We will be doing more pre-planned drives next spring so be sure to check out our social media platforms for more information nearer the time.
